During the next two weeks she suffered three light strokes, but was conscious up until two days before her death.
Mrs. West is remembered by her friends and neighbors for her helpfulness and thoughtfulness in their sickness and misfortune. She was always among the first to arrive at homes where sickness or trouble entered. She took especial pleasure in her grandchildren and the other children of the neighborhood, who grew to know her as "Grandma."
Funeral services for Mrs. West were held at the Donovan Funeral Home at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. J. E. Feller in charge. Mrs. Iva Slagle, soloist sang two favorite hymns of the deceased. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus." Mrs. C. C. Gravatt accompanied at the piano. This obituary was found in an old family bible. It obviously was clipped out of a Spirit Lake local paper but unfortunately the name of the paper is not included in the clipped copy.
