John Dickerson whose illness was mentioned last week passed away at his home last Friday evening at an early hour. Mr. Dickerson had been sick with an attack of flu when other complications set in due to old age. He was not able to survive, owing to a weakened heart.

John Nellson Dickerson was born at Aobona, N. Y. March 9, 1844. At the time of his death he was 88 years, 10 months and 4 days. His childhood days were spent near the place of his birth where he also grew to manhood. Later he came west and located in Michigan and while there enlisted in the army, entering Battery M, the First Michigan Light Artillery in 1862. At the close of the war he received an honorable discharge. He came to Iowa and this vicinity and homesteaded the present farm in 1869. This farm has been the place of his home through all the years.

In November 25, 1871, he was united in marriage to Martha Jeanette Nicol. Two daughters that were born to this union preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife and companion of the years, Mrs. Mattie Dickerson, also Olive, Mrs. Clifford Boyer, of Marshall, Minn., and Mae, Mrs. Fred Boyer of Lake Park. Also four grandsons and two granddaughters, and a large host of friends and neighbors.

Mr. Dickerson was an industrious man always thinking of the welfare of his loved ones and in the early days endured all the privations experienced in a new unsettled country. He was a man of firm convictions of right and a man who was well read and conversant and interested in all the current events.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church of which he was a charter member. Rev. R. E. Jones, of Tracy, Minn., a former pastor, conducting the ceremony and the services were conducted by the grave by the World war veterans. Burial was in Silver Lake cemetery beside his daughters.
