Closing Chapter of Life of T. A. Burns

Thomas Andrew Burns was born December 29, 1830, in Scholarie county, New York, and died at his home in Spirit Lake, Iowa, December 27, 1916, aged 85 years, 11 months and 27 days.

At the age of ten years he moved with his parents to Niagara county, New York, where he resided until 1856 when he came west and located in Juda, Green county, Wisconsin. Here he was united in marriage with Adelaide Bidwell, December 15, 1861. She passed away at Spirit Lake January 12, 1909. Five children were born to this union, three of whom were with him at the time of his death.
He was baptized into the Church church at Juda, Wisconsin, when a young man.

August 8th, 1862 he answered the call of his country and enlisted in Co. K. 22nd regiment, Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was mustered out of the service as a corporal on the 20th day of May 1865, at the Dongall Jail hospital, New York City.

In the fall of 1884 he again moved west, this time locating in Butler county, Iowa, and in 1901 came to Dickinson county locating on a farm five miles east of Spirit Lake and in February 1909, he moved to Spirit Lake, where he has since made his home.
He was a member of the A. F. & A. M. lodge for over 54 years. The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. E. Lumbar, the services at the grave being in charge of the Masonic order of which he was a member, and he was laid at rest by the side of his wife in Lakeview cemetery.
