Thompson Emerson was born at Orono, Maine, on September 20, 1838, and passed away at his home in Jamacin, Iowa, December 15, 1923, aged 85 years, 2 months, and 25 days. He moved with his parents to Green Lake, Wisconsin, at the age of about 12 years. Here he grew to young manhood and in March, 1862, was united in marriage to Miss Laura Lorinda Doolittle at Packwaukee, Wisconsin. To this union was born four children: D. T. Emerson of Ruthven, Iowa; F. S. Emerson of Superior, Iowa; Mrs. B. D. Estey of Superior, Iowa; one child dying in infancy. In the year 1868 the deceased moved with his family to Iowa, first settling on the west shores of Emerson Bay, where he resided continuously until 1906 with the exception of three years spent at Lime Springs, Iowa. In 1906 the family moved to Milford where they resided until 1911 when they moved to Spencer, Iowa, and in 1913 to Jamaica, Iowa, where the wife passed away Friday, March 5, 1915. In October, 1920, the deceased suffered a stroke of paralysis and had the second stroke November 26, 1923, and gradually grew weaker and fell into his last and final slumber on the date above noted. Deceased served in the Union army from October 17, 1864, to May 26, 1865. He was wounded in battle and received his discharge from Sedgwick government hospital at Greenville, Louisiana. The surviving relatives, beside the children are two sisters, Mrs. Libbie Stinehart of Mason City, Iowa, Mrs. Sarah Hood of Waterloo, Iowa, and one brother, Geo. Emerson of Los Angeles, Calif.; five grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and many more distant relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances.
