THOMAS KEVILL

Thomas Kevill, son of James Keawell (Kevill) and Mary Irwin, was born in Co. Sligo, Ireland (possibly Kilfree Parish, Townland of Maydough), circa 1838.

He preceded many of his family members in emigrating to the United States where, in 1861, he enlisted in the Sioux City Cavalry Company. He married Anna Oleson, a Norwegian immigrant, on 27 April 1867 in Sioux City, IA. In the same city, on Nov. 15, 1870, Thomas Kevill was "shot and killed." He was buried at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Union County, SD (on-line burial records confirm this). He had two children, both born in Sioux City, IA: James Alexander, born 29 July 1867; and Mary A., born approximately 1869.
