First St., Spencer on Tues., Jan. 20, 1914, at 5 a.m. The deceased has been in declining health for some time, being confined to his bed only the past two weeks. Mr. Meek was born near Richmond, Indiana, October 21, 1869. Hence he was 74 years, 2 months and 29 days. He was the eldest child in a family of ten. All of whom have preceded him over the Great Divide, except two sisters, Mrs. James Sharp of Sultana, California, and Mrs. Catherine Young of Portland, Oregon. When he was about 2 years of age, his parents came to this state settling near Des Moines. After a short residence there, they moved to Jefferson County, settling on a farm near Fairfield, where he grew to manhood,
At 19 years of age he went West where he spent about ten years. On his return he was married to Miss Frances Gow, of Brookville, Iowa, November 13, 1872. To this union were born eight children consisting of three sons and five daughters, five of whom survive their father, three having died in infancy. Those living, together with a faithful wife should have the sympathy of all who know them, today in this great loss.

Uprightness and honesty marked this good man's life, and were the characteristics which won for him the highest esteem of his family and a host of friends.
Services were held at 10:30 Thursday at the house conducted by Rev. J. O. Thrush.
