Robert Koppert, 65, longtime Milford educator and Scout leader, died unexpectedly Friday (March 2, 1990) at Dickinson County Memorial He was a Plymouth County native.

Services were held Monday at the First Lutheran Church at Milford. Rev. John Petersen officiated. Burial was in the Milford Cemetery under direction of Turner funeral home at Milford.

Mr. Koppert was born Feb. 2, 1925, at Akron, to H. A. and Carolina Lena Erks Koppert. He lived in Plymouth County for many years and served as a technical rifleman and marksman in the U.S. army during World War, II. He served in Normandy and the Rhineland and Central Europe, being decorated with six bronze stars and numerous campaign ribbons.

During his long career as an educator he also was an exceptionally active Boy Scout leader. He was awarded the Silver Beaver, 25-year service plaque as a scout leader. He was named Kiwanis citizen of the year in 1985 at Milford; Arrowhead of the year in 1989, and was named Wood badge adult leader. He was a member of the American Legion at Milford. He lived and taught at Melcher, Dallas, Meriden, Inwood and Arnolds Park in Iowa and Salinas, Calif., before settling at Milford. He retired a year and a half ago. He married Phyllis Bruns June 21, 1963, at Spokane, Wash.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; two sons, Mike of Arnolds Park and Rob at home; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Sandy) Herried of Okoboji, Mrs. Don (Valeria) Welle of Milford, Mrs. Mike (Debbie) Paxton of Milford. and Mrs. Bob (Sheila) Ove of Spirit Lake; a sister, Irene. Robb, Ann Arbor, Mich.; a brother, Eugene of Silver Lake, Wash.; nine grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Leo Koppert.
