F. H. MEAD PASSES AWAY

Frank Hamilton Mead was born in Douglas county, Illinois, November 9th, 1844, but at the age of four years, he came with his parents to Clay county, Iowa, and lived there until ten years old. His parents then moved to Dickinson county, Iowa, near Spirit Lake. He lived here until sixteen years of age, enlisting at that time, 1861, and was detailed to the Seventh Iowa Cavalry, sometimes called the Sioux City Cavalry and border rangers.

During the winter of 1862 he did service in the Sixth and Seventh Iowa Battery against Humpa-Shota and his band of Sioux Indians. He was discharged in 1864 and settled near Spirit Lake.

He was married in 1872 to Henrietta West and in 1875 they moved to Monona county, Iowa, settling near Little Sioux. In 1884 they came to Onawa and have lived here since that time.

He is survived by his wife, of this place, and son Rev. Elihu Mead of Bigelow, Minnesota.

The cause of his death was cancer.

The funeral service was held on Sunday February 15,[1914]at the Methodist church conducted by the pastor and the G.A.R. The body was laid to rest in the Onawa cemetery.
