Milford, diesMary Etta Grant Ferguson, daughter of Henry Grant and Laura Culbertson Grant, was born on August 1, 1897 in Shannon City, Iowa. "Mary" as she was known, spent her early years in Union County, Iowa.
On June 3, 1920 she was united in marriage to Ernest Ferguson at Shannon City, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with the birth of two children, Clara and Paul. Mary and Ernie farmed in Clay County, Iowa for 37 years, then moved to Terril, Iowa following their retirement. Ernest passed away on April 28, 1970. After living in Terril for 37 years, Mary moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa for two years. Failing health required Mary to move into the Milford Nursing Center in June, 1989.
Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church in Terril, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the royal Neighbors of America.
Mary passed away on May 2, 1999 at the Milford Nursing Center at the age of 101 years, 9 months, and 2 days.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Clara Wasteney of Arispe, Iowa, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Mullihan of Spirit Lake, Iowa; four grandsons, Steve Wasteney and his wife Janet, Kenneth Ferguson and wife Cherie, Craig Wasteney and his wife Sharon, Raymond Wasteney and his wife Nadine, granddaughter by marriage, Janice Ferguson; 13 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandsons, one great-great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 4 at the United Methodist Church in Terrill, with the Rev. Charles Gilbert officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Terrill.
As the last surviving member of her family, she was preceded in death by her four brothers and two sisters, her husband, her son, Paul in 1979, her grandson, Hal in 1998 and granddaughter Fay.
