Apr. 3, 2005Born July 16, 1919, in Kansas City, Kan., he was the son of Laddis and Augusta Heaussler Hay. On Dec. 20, 1942, he married Aletha Buckingham Hay in Fairfield.
Mr. Hay worked as an industrial engineer for Lowden Manufacturing in Fairfield, the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, Sylvania and J.I. Case Co. He also was an Iowa tree farmer.
He was a graduate of Monticello High School and attended Coe College and State University of Iowa. He was a World War II Iowa State Guard veteran. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 53 years, where he served as deacon, president of the board of trustees and a ruling elder. He also was a member of Des Moines County Historical Society, Iowa Engineering Society, Woodcarvers Club, Stamp Collector Club, Model Railroaders, SE Iowa Gas Engine Club, and was member and treasurer for many years of the Burlington Area Arts Council.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judith Rhea of New Orleans; two sons, David Hay of rural Des Moines County and Kevin Hay of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, twin brother and one daughter.
There will be no visitation or service for Mr. Hay; the body has been cremated. A private family service will be at a later date.
