Leon John Staff, 42, of New London died at 4 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at his home.
Born March 6, 1967, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Marlan R. and Carol P. Dietsch Staff.

Mr. Staff was a machinist on the family farm.

He was a graduate of Danville High School, Southeastern Community College in welding, and Indian Hills Community College in farm and diesel mechanics. He was affiliated with Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove. He was an avid history buff and reader and enjoyed fishing, antique tractors and surfing the Internet.

Survivors include his mother of New London; two sisters, Paula Mehaffy of New London, and Sandra Gerken of Lake City, Minn.; and six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

The body has been cremated.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Hass-Thielen Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Graveside Committal and burial for Mr. Staff will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Prairie Grove Cemetery, with the Rev. Cindy Johnson officiating.
