Viola Smith

Viola M. Stoecker Smith, 70, of 2102 Racine St., died at 8:25 p.m. Monday, Aug, 13, 1990, at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Born Aug. 1, 1920, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ole C. and Befrtha Silicman Bowman. She married Louis F. Stoecker in 1938. He died in March 1966. She then married Virgil A. Smith in 1971. He died in April 1984.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Church of Christ.

Surviving are one son, Louis Stoecker, Burlington; two daughters, Ellen Payne, Arlington, Tex., and Phyllis Roxlau, Burlington; one sister, Arlene Heater, Morning Sun; one brother, Clinton Bowman, Burlington; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel.

The service for Mrs. Smith will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Brian Crousore officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the First United Church of Christ.
