Native of County Dies

James A. Benedict, 86, Dies at County farm After 43 Year's Illness

James A. Benedict, 86, native and lifelong resident of Des Moines county, died at the county farm late yesterday afternoon after 43 years' illness. He suffered a stroke in 1890 and has been in ill health ever since.

Mr. Benedict was born near Burlington January 26, 1857 (ed.--1847),and married in 1879 to Cordelia Ellen Kinnett, who survives him and has cared for him during all the years of his illness. He followed the occupation of farming and was a member of the Walnut Street Baptist church. His home here was at 1802 Des Moines street and he was taken to the county farm for care several weeks ago, when his illness became serious.

Besides his widow he is survived by one brother Dorance Benedict and a sister, Mr. Libbie Wagner. Four children, William, Rose, Frances and Cordelia, all preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Unterkircher's funeral home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of Rev. P. H. Blont, pastor of Walnut Street Baptist church with burial at Wickhart cemetery.
