Dorothy Matilda Funk, 87, a long-time resident of Burlington, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at her daughter's home in Harlan.Born August 26, 1915, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Frederick and Orpheus M. Siefkin(sic)* Wischmeier. She married Carroll Kenneth Funk in 1942. He died October 14, 1982.
Mrs. Funk was a 1933 graduate of Sperry High School (sic: probably Mediapolis High School). She worked for Dr. Frank Ober as a nanny and housekeeper for more than 40 years, and also catered parties, weddings and other gatherings for nearly 40 years.
She was a member of Burlington Civic Music Association and Travel Log and was active in Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. She enjoyed cooking, baking and raising homegrown tomatoes.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Sue McLaughlin of Harlan; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Edna Walker of New London; one brother, Howard Wischmeier of Sperry; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one nephew.
Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mrs. Funk will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel, with the Reverend Steve Parker officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
