Death Claims Civil War Vet
Oliver Orm, 90, Flint River Township, Was Member of Iowa Infantry.Oliver Orm, 90 year old resident of Flint River township, and one of the two surviving members of Company 3, Fifteenth Iowa Infantry in the Civil War, died at his home six miles west of Burlington on the Agency road last evening. Mr. Orm was a brick contractor by trade and has worked on a number of local structures in former years.
He was born in Athen, O., on November 13, 1938, and came to Franklin, IA., in 1854. He had been a resident of Des Moines county for more than 50 years. In 1866 he married Jennie Pittman of Fort Madison, Ia., and to this union were born four daughters, who survive, an one son, who died at an early age. His wife died in January, 1881. On Oct. 1898, he was married to Joan Leffler, of Des Moines county, who survives.
Mr. Orm enlisted in the Civil war on January 18, 1864 and immediately joined Company E., Fifteenth Iowa infantry, and served faithfully until his discharge. He brother was killed in action, July 21, 1854, at Atlanta, Ga.. This brother is buried in the National cemetery at Marietta, Ga.
Surviving besides his widow, are four daughters, Mrs. Gladys Roe, of Compton, Calif.; Mrs. Minnie Freemand, of San Juan, Tex.; Mrs. Olive Brun of Kirksville, Mo., and Mrs. Elanor Baumgartner of Des Moines county. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to Prugh's chapel pending funeral arrangements.
