The Last of His Family, Silas Walker Passed Away in Tama Township, Monday.

Silas Walker, the last survivor of his family, who were among the pioneers of this county, passed away at his home in Tama township, at 7:45 o'clock Monday morning (June 4, 1917), death being due to the weight of the years. Mr. Walker was born in Randolph county, Virginia, the son of Joseph and Barbara Walker, June 28, 1826, and came to Des Moines county in 1844, and made his home to the end on the place where he located at that time. On August 31, 1856, he was married to Louise Distelhorst. This happy union was blessed with thirteen children, of whom two died in infancy.

He is survived by the widow and the following children: Mrs. Emma Shreve, Sloan, Iowa; Willard M. Walker, of Samatra, Montana; Mrs. Christian Bazel, of Morning Sun, Iowa; Fred L. Walker, of Middletown; Mrs. Rosetta Shreve, of Washington, Iowa; Joseph B. Walker, at home; Jethro E. Walker, of Burlington; Mrs. Minnie Ward, of Danville; Miss Rachel M. Walker at home; Royal L. Walker, at Sloan, Iowa, and Mrs. Selma Walker, of Middletown, Iowa.

Many friends will mourn with the relatives, as the deceased was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of the Tamatown M. E. church, and a fine type of Iowa pioneer.

The arrangements for the funeral will be announced later.
