Dean Anderson, 77, of Burlington, died at 3:00 AM Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the New London Care Initiatives Nursing Facility.
Born July 5, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Francis Peter and Mary Elizabeth Collett Anderson. On September 1, 1963, he married Judith Marie Carlile in Burlington.
He was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School.
After high school he worked for IRC Company and Precision Engineering as a design engineer. He then started H. Dean Anderson Company where he did custom machine design, and Dean Anderson Racing Equipment for over 40 years. Many of his machine designs held patents for manufacturing purposes and he continued to offer engineering consultation after starting his companies.
He had a private pilots license and enjoyed flying the planes he owned. He was a member of EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) and built his own helicopter. Dean also enjoyed sprint car and midget racing. He spent many years as a racecar driver, team owner, and sponsored many drivers. He was gifted with an inventive mind and built many impressive projects throughout the years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and always said they were his greatest achievements. Anyone who knew Dean, knew how devoted he was to his wife and how much they loved each other.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Judy Anderson; two daughters, Dena Spooner of Ankeny and Toi (John) VanEss of Seymour, WI; one son, Kip (Lori) Anderson of Burlington; five grandchildren, Ashley, Frank, Henry, Chloe and Carson; two brothers, Bob (Barb) Anderson of Burlington, & Roger (Sandy) Anderson of Indianapolis, IN; four sisters-in-law, Linda Anderson, Sherry Anderson, Nancy McKee, & Karen Anderson all of Burlington; and 11 nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Jim, Jerry, Donny, & David Anderson, one sister, Lois Anderson and one nephew, Don Anderson.
Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.
Per his wishes, there will be no visitation or services.
