Gertrude M. Fletcher, 101, of Burlington died at 6:05 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. 

Born Dec. 8, 1915, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle Carruthers Wagler. 

She married Ralph "Buzz" Robert Fletcher in 1938 in Burlington; he preceded her in death Aug. 23, 2001.

Mrs. Fletcher began her working career at the Burlington Glove Factory, then worked at Woolworths and Sears.  She retired from IRC-TRW after 30 years.

She and her sisters had a singing group.  She also enjoyed water aerobics, bird watching and reading, especially Dick Frances crime novels.  She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

She was an active member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Survivors include two sons, Terry Fletcher of Ottumwa and Michael "Mick" Fletcher of West Burlington; two daughters, Joan Fletcher of Burlington and Nancy Filipiak of Milwaukee; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel.

The funeral service for Mrs. Fletcher will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Burlington.  Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for First Christian Church and the Burlington Public Library.
