Yesterday afternoon at one o'clock Mr. Daniel Mosby Ewing, and old time resident of this city, died at the home of his son on North Fourth street. Though Mr. Ewing had been afflicted with paralysis for a number of years and his health was in a precarious condition, his death was rather unexpected. A relapse was noticed shortly before noon, which terminated fatally within a few hours. Mr. Ewing located in Burlington in the spring of 1839, emigrating from Indiana with his father. For a number of years he was engaged in the dry goods business. Upon the death of Mr. Ewing's father's partner he associated himself with the firm, which conducted a general store, disposing of his interest in 1863, when he engaged in the land business with Mr. John G. Foote, his brother-in-law. Continuing in this avocation for a few years the co-partnership was dissolved and Mr. Ewing retired from active business life. In 1850 he was married to Mrs. Anna Chase, who preceded her husband to the unknown world four or five years. Three sons were the fruit of the union, John, W. B. Ewing and R. M. Ewing. The former died a number of years ago, and the latter two are now prosperous business men of Burlington. At the time of his death Mr. Ewing was sixty-four years of age. He was a man of considerable means, active and energetic in his commercial transactions and had many warm friends. No announcement of the funeral has yet been made.
