Richard John Carlson, 79, of Burlington died at 3:08 a.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Great River Medical Center Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 22, 1929, in Burlington, he was the son of John J. and Esther L. Hallgren Carlson. On July 29, 1950, he married Maxine Mary Kesler in Burlington. She died Oct. 25, 2003.
Mr. Carlson worked as a salesman for Weyers Beauty Supplies. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Parkside Baptist Church and a former member of Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include two sons, Mark Carlson of Burlington and David Carlson of Des Moines; four grandchildren; two brothers, Donald J. Carlson of Burlington and John G. Carlson of Danville; one sister, Jean Perry of Burlington; nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Parkside Baptist Church in Burlington.
The funeral for Mr. Carlson will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Parkside Baptist Church with the Rev. Marshall Jackman officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Olena Cemetery, Olena, Ill.

A memorial has been established for Parkside Baptist Church.
