James Andrew Burgus, 65, of Sperry, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, 1998, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born April 26, 1932, in rural Sperry, he was the son of Herbert C. and Daisy E. Marshall Burgus. On August 28, 1955, he married Hazel Anna Robbins in Burlington.

Mr. Burgus was a U.S. Army veteran of Korean War, serving until 1954. He worked for National Research Bureau for 25 years and Doran and Ward Printing Company for the last 18 years, both of Burlington.

He was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church in Sperry, and was an avid race fan and gardener.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Timothy Burgus of Burlington, Thomas Burgus of Mediapolis, and Trenton Burgus, Tracey Burgus and Travis Burgus, all at home; two daughters, Twyla Crawford of Burlington and Terri Russell of rural Biggsville, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Crow of Morning Sun, Lavera Gerst of Yarmouth and Pauline Kester of rural Burlington; and one brother, Harold Burgus of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be after 8 a.m. Thursday at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Burgus will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Reverend John Gaulke officiating. Burial will be in Loper Cemetery in Sperry.

A memorial has been established for Sperry United Methodist Church.
