Fred E. Saftig, 55, of 1503 S. 15th, died Thursday morning at St. Francis hospital. He was taken to the hospital by police ambulance at 2:25 a.m. Thursday.
He was born in Des Moines County Sept. 3, 1901, the son of John and Mary Schneider Saftig. He married the former Hilda Meller in Burlington May 12, 1931. He was employed in the shipping department at Chittenden & Eastman company the past 10 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Moose, and Eagles lodges, and upholstering union local 1860.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Loren E., of Burlington; a daughter, Veronica L., of Burlington, and three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Luttenegger, Mrs. Laura Rudy and Mrs. Anna Hancock, all of Burlington. Two brothers, four sisters and a daughter are dead.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic church. Burial will be in Aspen Grove cemetery. The rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wallen's chapel
