Mrs. Mary Ellen Heine, 87, of West Burlington, formerly of Tucson, AZ, Minneapolis, MN and Cedar Falls, died 7:43 a.m. Sunday, February 08, 2015 at the Great River Medical Center, Klein Center.
Born on March 8, 1927 in Mankato, Minnesota, she was the daughter of George W. and Beaulah B. (Black) Anderson. She married Dr. George W. Heine on September 18, 1948 in Mankato, Minnesota. They were a devoted couple for more than 66 years.
Mary was a registered nurse and later a licensed medical social worker. She was a member of the P.E.O., and actively volunteered in community organizations. She enjoyed golf, traveling, reading, and especially time spent with family. She was best known for her kind, thoughtful and humble nature, even throughout her long struggle with Alzheimer's.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. George W. Heine of Burlington; three sons, George (Janet) Heine III of Pueblo, CO, Richard (Debra) Heine of Lee's Summit, MO and David (Ann) Heine of Albuquerque, NM; two daughters, Nancy Pearlman of Denver, CO and Susan (Wyman) Weinbeck of Burlington; eleven grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Wolfe of Coon Rapids, MN and Margie (Gary) Nash of Chanhassen, MN; two brothers, George Anderson of Pleasanton, CA and James (Aileen) Anderson of Tucson, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Robert Anderson of Excelsior, MN.
A memorial service for Mrs. Heine will be held at later date. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
