William Russell "Rusty" Boyle, 95, of Burlington, died at 9:17 AM Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Blair House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born August 22, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Francis Phillip and Mary Margaret Boyle. On July 14, 1979, he married Dorothy Jean Schufelt in Burlington. She died February 22, 2003.
He worked at Flynn & Boyle's Furniture City for over 60 years.
He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II on the U.S.S. Nevada in Normandy, France and the South Pacific.
He was a member of SS. John & Paul Catholic Church. He was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Detroit Lions, and really enjoyed going to work at Furniture City.
Survivors include one sister, Sister Rose Anne Boyle, SSND of Bridgeton, MO; two step-sons, Michael Thompson of Bloomington, IL and Mark Thompson of West Burlington; ten step-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home. There will be a Rosary Service at 5:00 PM Monday, February 9, 2015, at Thielen Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Boyle will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant and Rev. Father David G. Steinle and Rev. Father Hai Dinh as the Concelebrants. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir and full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's cafeteria following the burial.
A memorial has been established for the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry.
