Melissa Jane Hoambrecker, 59, of Burlington died due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) at 5:25 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009, at her home.
Born January 26, 1950, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wesley Vernard and Madeline Melvina Beavers Cooper. On February 13, 1971, she married Mike Hoambrecker in Burlington.
Mrs. Hoambrecker was a 1968 graduate of Burlington High School. She worked at Winegard's for 36 years.
Mrs. Hoambrecker was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and flower gardening.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Hoambrecker of Burlington; one son, Eric (Kristy) Hoambrecker of Burlington; one daughter, Sarah Jane Hoambrecker of Burlington; six grandchildren, Destinee, Dadrian, Kaelyn, Cade and Conner Hoambrecker and Carlee Brown; her mother, Madeline Cooper of Burlington; three brothers, Larry (Karla) Cooper of Slidell, Louisiana, Terry Cooper and Randy (Gina) Cooper, both of Burlington; and six sisters, Dolores Wright of Roseville, Minnesota, Judy Gabriel of Des Moines, Marla Starman and Marilyn Beik both of Burlington, Cheryl (Chuck) Clouse of Ottumwa and Melodee (Dennis) Kennedy of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
Her father and one brother, Gary Cooper, preceded her in death.
Friends may call after noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hoambrecker will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19th, in Zion United Church of Christ. The Rev. Jane Willan will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for MDA/ALS Division and Des Moines County Special Needs.
