Mrs. Roberta M. Nelson, 88, of West Burlington, died at 5:28 p.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Rose Bush Gardens.
Born July 6, 1926 at Keota, she was the daughter of Earl Clyde and Aurelia J. (Petermann) Watson. On July 30, 1949 she married Carl Raymond Nelson in Burlington. He preceded her in death on December 16, 1994.
Mrs. Nelson was a Burlington High School graduate. She was a supervisor at Midwest Biscuit Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1992.
Mrs. Nelson was of the Presbyterian faith and was a member of the Moose Auxiliary and the New London V.F.W. Auxiliary. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She loved going to the Casino and listening to the bells ring.
Survivors include two sons, Steven C. (Millie) Nelson of West Burlington and Ronald K. (Charlene) Nelson of Nixa, Missouri; three grandchildren, Todd D. (Jenn) Nelson of New York City, Jennifer S. Nelson of Springfield, Missouri and Sulene R. Nelson of Burlington; one great granddaughter, Madeleine Nelson of New York City; one step grandson, Chuck (Beth) Pfadenhauer of Picayune, Mississippi; two step great grandchildren, Jesse and Lauren Pfadenhauer both of Picayune, Mississippi; two sisters, Louise Lichtenstein of Dewitt and Audrey (Norman) Vinyard of Cypress, Texas and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bernard, Leland and Raymond; one sister, Maxine and one step great granddaughter, Faith Pfadenhauer.
The funeral service for Mrs. Nelson will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 22nd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Deb Kinney officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and the family will receive friends from 9:30 until the time of service.
Memorials have been established for West Burlington Fire Department and Rose Bush Gardens.
A luncheon will be served at the Moose Lodge following the Committal Service.
