Donald Everett Downs Sr., 84, of Burlington, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 27, 1997, at River Bend Care Center in Burlington.

Born January 2, 1913, in Independence, Iowa, he was the son of Harley and Sadie Litts Downs. On February 13, 1959, he married Vera Mary Young Marshall in Palmyra, Missouri. She died August 23, 1995.

Mr. Downs worked for Burlington Produce and Schramm's Department Store in Burlington for many years. He was of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include one son, Dwight Downs of Wapello; two stepsons, Ralph Leon Marshall and David Clark Marshall, both of Sperry; one stepdaughter, Ethel Lona Marshall of Sperry; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one son and seven brothers.

There will be no visitation or services. Mr. Downs body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department.

A memorial has been established to River Bend Care Center of Burlington.
