Sherman "Max" Wagg, 72, of Mediapolis died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2007, at his home.
Born April 15, 1935, in Wapello, he was the son of Pliny F. and Nona Zimmerman Wagg. On March 12, 1955, he married Grace L. Krueger in Muscatine.
Mr. Wagg was a career military man, having retired on July 31, 1978, after 21 years of active service. During his career, he was awarded two Bronze Star medals, four Army commendation medals, six good conduct medals, a National Defense Service medal, a Korea Defense Service medal, a Vietnam Service medal (for six campaigns), a Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with 60 devices and four overseas service bars. He particiapted in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was a member of the American Legion. He was Protestant.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Brenda Miller of Mediapolis; two grandchildren; and one brother, George Wagg of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Graveside military services will be held in the Keokuk National Cemetery, with Chaplain Major Martinez officiating. Active duty military served as pallbearers and honor guard.
A memorial has been established for the American Legion Post No. 243.
