Chuck G. Leaming, 79, of Burlington, died at 11:33 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014, at his home.

Born on May 29, 1935 in Los Angeles, California, he was the son of Clyde and Virginia (Leon) Leaming.

He married Twilla Vandiver on May 9, 1980 in Burlington. She died May 9, 2012. He was a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 28 years, transferring between Seattle, Minneapolis and West Burlington. He retired in 2000. After retirement he drove the bus for the Great River Medical Center - Klein Center, transferring patients to appointments. In 2008, he was named Klein Center Employee of the Year.

He enjoyed woodworking, boating, motorcycling and gardening. He was a master gardener and served on the Burlington City Parks Advisory Committee for many years.

He is survived by his four children, Deborah Sherwood, Gary Leaming, William Leaming and Robert Leaming; his step-children, Doug (Amy) Vandiver, Darrin (Sarah) Vandiver and Dee Dee (Randy) Lair; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Linda and Susie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Twilla, his son Richard and one sister Daisy Chandler.

The memorial funeral service for Mr. Leaming will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 2nd, at West Burlington Christian Church with the Rev. Doug Vandiver officiating. Inurnment will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice House and Great River Klein Center.
