Alfrieda Louise Carter, 95, of Burlington, died at 3:05 p.m., Monday, December 12, 2011, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 22, 1916, in Louisa County, Iowa, she was the daughter of James and Elsie May Loper Baxter. On June 5, 1937, she married Elmer Heinold in Oakville. He died in 1954. On February 24, 1966, she married Joseph Carter in Burlington. He died in 1982. In 1983 she met her companion for 22 years, H. Sanford Anderson, at the Steamboat Senior Center. He died in 2005.

Mrs. Carter was a homemaker.

She graduated from Oakville High School in 1936. She was president of her class her junior and senior years and was in Glee Club all four years of high school. She was active in all sports in high school, including cheerleading, and ping pong and she liked to roller and ice skate.

She walked about everyday, until her later years. She loved animals and had all kinds of pets on the farm, wild ones too, including a baby coon and three baby rabbits. She would've liked to have helped at a veterinarian hospital. She was a member of Millwright UBC Retirees Club, Moose Lodge 579, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries 150, and the Steamboat Senior Center for more than 22 years. She received the R.S.V.P. Award for volunteer program in Davenport. She lived most of her married life in the Quad Cities before moving back to Oakville, and then to Burlington.

Survivors include one nephew, Warren (Betty) Cook of Galesburg, Illinois; four nieces, Carlene (Wayne) Johnson of Evanville, Indiana, Susan (John) Davis of Las Vegas, Nevada, Joan White of Burlington, and Emily (Robert) Schultz of Burlington.

Besides her husbands and her companion, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters.

As per the request of Mrs. Carter, cremation has been accorded.

The Memorial Service for Mrs. Carter will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend John McClure officiating. Inurnment will be in Edwards Cemetery in Oakville. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Hass-Thielen community room following the service.
