Lewis Mehaffy
Lewis Leroy Mehaffy, 79, of Burlington died at 2:34 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at his home.

Born June 21, 1928, in Wapello, he was the son of David Winslow and Gertrude Elizabeth Bethel Mehaffy. On June 24, 1950, he married Glenna Mae Rowe in Burlington.

Mr. Mehaffy was a master carpenter, working for the Carpenters' Union Local 410 for 47 years. He served in the Army during the Korean War as a corporal in the 10th Mountain Division. He was a ski instructor at Camp Carson, Colo., from 1948 to 1950. He was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Deborah L. Buechel and Diane E. Buechel, both of rural Danville, and Kathleen K. Smith of Sperry; one son, Dennis C. Mehaffy of Burlington; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Brown of Burlington; and one brother, David W. Mehaffy Jr. of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by one son, his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The body will be cremated following visitation.

Burial will be at a later date in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
