Irene M. Deam, 91, of the Wapello Nursing and Care Center, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 5, 1989, at the care center. Born April 15, 1898, in Louisa County, she was the daughter of William and Davilla Hamilton Torode. She married Clarence Deam October 21, 1921, in Keokuk. He died May 7, 1966.

She was employed as a teacher in Des Moines and Louisa counties, and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Brockway, Davenport, and Donna Schmeid, Wapello; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A graveside committal service for Mrs. Deam will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, with the Reverend Bill Young officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Easter Seal Foundation.
