David Paul Mathias, 60, of Burlington, died at 6:45 AM Monday, December 8, 2014, at his home in Burlington. Born November 7, 1954, in Agency, IA, he was the son of Clifford and Donna Holcome Mathias. He married Lila Henson. David worked as a construction worker. He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from February 18, 1972 until July 9, 1973. He had a great sense of humor and was a hardworking man. He enjoyed watching football with his son-in-law and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his parents Clifford and Donna Mathias of Rochester, NY; one daughter, Andrea (Scott) Lane of Burlington; one son, David Jacob Mathias of Burlington; four grandchildren, Zeke Lane, Zakkia Lane, Zeonna Lane, and Kinley Mathias; one brother, Ken Mathias of Fort Myers, FL; two sisters, Barb Cecil of Bonaparte and Eunice Maxson of Fort Madison; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Thielen Crematory. There will be no visitation or services. A memorial has been established.
