Ms. Julia Diane Johnston, 52, of West Burlington died at 12:29 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Lexington Square in Keokuk after losing her two year battle with breast cancer.
Born December 5, 1961 in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Lyle Johnston and Dorothy E. Kobs Johnston Lott. She married Rick Graham and they later divorced. She later married Jeff Donlan and they also divorced.
Ms. Johnston was a graduate of West Burlington High School and also attended SCC Radiology Technical School. She worked as a CNA and also a clerk at Burlington Medical Center in the Radiology Department. She also worked as a bartender at The Dugout, The Barn, Gators, Fiddlesticks, Weyl's Marina Lounge and helped with raffles at the Green Lantern. Her last employment was at Flint Cliff working in Shipping and Receiving.
Ms. Johnston was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. She loved doing genealogical and paralegal work, and helping out at benefits and raffles. She loved the outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing, gardening and her adopted dog Toby. She was known for her cooking and had won several local cooking contests.
Survivors include her father, Lyle Johnston of Washington; one sister, Rebecca D. Garland of Farmer City, Illinois; four step brothers, Phillip A. Lott, Tracy Lott, Daryl Lott and Brett Lott; one step sister, Vickie Teel; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother; brother, Dennis Johnston; and brother-in-law, Vearl Garland.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Saturday, October 25th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m.
The funeral service for Ms. Johnston will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 25th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Father David Steinle officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Burlington.
Memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and Des Moines County Humane Society where she had adopted Toby.
There will be a celebration of life at Farney's following the committal service at St. Mary's Cemetery.
