Mrs. Joy Pauline White, 91, of Burlington died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, at Burlington Care Center.
Born October 7, 1922 in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of James Preston and Birdie Marie (Jacoba) Stucker. On June 24, 1944 she married Earl Harrison White at West Hill United Methodist Church in Burlington. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1977.
Mrs. White was a 1940 Burlington High School graduate. She worked at Midwest Biscuit Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1982. She later worked part time at the YMCA.
Joy had a love of antiques and a flair for decorating and a love for rustic keepsakes. She was also very patriotic.
Survivors include one sister, Hazel Lord of Burlington; two godchildren, Wendy Geiger of Deep River and Michael Johnston of Montezuma; very good friends Sally and Denny Johnston of Montezuma; sister-in-law, Maxine Wagner of Shawnee, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews and very special Christmas Eve friends of the past 42 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Roger White; husband, Earl; brothers, Howard Stucker and Paul Stucker; sisters, Grace Mathews, Fern Noble, and June Callaway; parents; and nephew, Richard.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday, September 13th, at Lunning Chapel.
The graveside committal service and interment for Mrs. White will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 14th, at Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery. Those that wish to drive in procession will meet at 12:45 at Lunning Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
