Robert James Bloomer, 62, of Burlington, died at 9:05 a.m. Saturday, July 13, 2002, at New London Care Center in New London.
Born Nov. 9, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur G. and Mary E. Johnson Bloomer. He was married to Mary Ellen Danielson for 28 years. She preceded him in death. On June 6, 2000, he married Sharon Kay Ita in Allens-park, Colo.
Mr. Bloomer was a Burlington Police officer for 23 years before retiring.
He also worked for Hy-Vee for 10 years.
He was a member of Sts. John and Paul Catholic Church. He served in the National Guard for nine years. He was a member of the Burlington Police Department "Enforcers" basketball team. He enjoyed working in the yard and sports, especially basketball.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jeffery Bloomer of Fort Madison, Matthew Bloomer of Independence, David Bloomer of Chicago and Mitchell Bloomer of Jacksonville, Ill.; one stepson, Christopher Ita of Abingdon, Ill.; five grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Lincoln of Burlington; and nieces and nephews.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation will begin after 8 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Bloomer will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Patrick Hilgendorf officiating.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his memory.
