Christiana Walker Bazel 1866 - 1946

Christiana Walker Bazel, daughter of Silas and Louisa Distelhorst Walker, was born north of Burlington on July 16, 1866, and died at her home in Morning Sun on September 5, 1946. She united in marriage to Elmer E. Bazel on June 17, 1886, and they located on a farm near Yarmouth where they lived until 1904 when they moved to a farm west of Morning Sun. Here they lived for 27 years and until the time of their retirement when they moved to Morning Sun 15 years ago.

Mrs. Bazel is survived by the following daughters Mrs. Mae Blanck of New London; Mrs. Exxa Pontzius, Mrs. Alma Dickson and Miss Ida Bazel all of Morning Sun; one son, Wyman Bazel of this place. She was preceded in death by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Bertha McElhinney, Mrs. Gladys Pogemiller and Lela who died at the age of 18 months; one son, William, a veteran of World War I. Also surviving Mrs. Bazel are 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 4 sisters, Mrs. Rosetta Shieve of Washington, Iowa, Mrs. Minnie Ward and Miss Rachel Walker, both of Burlington and Mrs. Selma Walker of New London; two brothers, Roy Walker of Sioux City and Joe Walker of Burlington.

Mrs. Bazel united with the Methodist church at Tamatown when a young woman and at the time of her death she was a member of the Morning Sun Methodist church.
