Henrietta Illard Gardiner, 85, of 2200 S. 13th Street, Burlington, Iowa ; died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at the Great River Medical Center, West Burlington, Iowa.
She was the daughter of Henry and Rose Hoffeditz Peterman and was born October 1918 on a farm near Nauvoo, Illinois. She was baptized in the Catholic Church in Nauvoo on the day of her fathers funeral. Her father died of pneumonia when she was only six weeks old. After her fathers death she moved to her maternal grandparents home with her mother and only sister Anna Marie Peterman. Her grandparents name was George Hoffeditz and Mary Enginger Hoffeditz in Stronghurst, Illinois. Her mother married Hewrman Matzka when she was three years old. They moved to Burlington, Iowa where he was employed at the West Burlington CB & Q Railway Shops. She attended Burlington schools and graduated from Burlington High School in June 1936. On April 11,1937 she married Charles (Chizzy) Gardiner. They had two sons Charles Gardiner Junior born December 26, 1938 and Ronald Gardiner born August 6, 1940 in Burlington. Her husband was killed March 3, 1945 in World War 11 while serving in the Army in Germany. He is buried in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
Genrietta Gardiner is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eagles Auziliary. She worked at IRC/TRW from November 1957 until retirement in 1975.
She has five grandchildren, Rhonda Gardiner James, Ronald (Rocky) Gardiner Jr., Christine, Debra, and Charles (Chip) Gardiner 111.
She also has five great-grandchildren Brendin James, Kelsey James, Joey and Kimberly Gardiner, and Caleb Jimenez all of Fort Worth, Texas and a sixth due in November.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Ann Marie Mennen, two sons Charles Gardiner and Ron Gardiner.
Funeral services for Henrietta Gardiner will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Reverend Betsy Lee will officiate. Interment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening at Prugh's Chapel from 6:oo p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A Memorial has been established for Trinity lutheran Church.
