Mrs. Eloise G. Oetken, 84, of rural Burlington, died at 1:10 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Burlington Care Center.
Born January 30, 1930 in Burlington, she was the daughter of John and Amelia (Wirt) Burgus. On November 25, 1951 she married Raymond C. Oetken in rural Burlington. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2005.
Mrs. Oetken was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School. Mrs. Oetken was a homemaker and farmwife. She also was a switchboard operator of Northwestern Bell, and worked at National Research bureau and McKesson Chemical.
Mrs. Oetken was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church. As a teenager, she had been confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, canning produce, and knitting and was a great cook.
Survivors include five sons, Mark (Nancy) Oetken of rural Burlington, Larry (Annette Hill) Oetken of Burlington, David (Lisa) Oetken of rural Mount Pleasant, Jeffrey (Mary) Oetken of Burlington and Tim Oetken of Mediapolis; one daughter, Debra (Fernando Ballesteros) Oetken of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Brandon, Aaron, Lindsey, Austin, Crystal, Alex, Christian, Olivia and Spencer; one great grandson, Grason; seven step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; one sister, Aletha Carter of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Joanne Oetken of Burlington; brother-in-law, Robert Oetken of Danville and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Irene Schnicker.
Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 18th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral service for Mrs. Oetken will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 19th, at Oak Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Karas and Steven Parker officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials have been established for Oak Street Baptist Church and Mediapolis Ambulance Service.
