Forrest Wran "Frosty" Van Osdol, 73, of Burlington, died at 12:05 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2000, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born December 6, 1926, in rural Danville, he was the son of Wran W. and Bessie A. Talbert Van Osdol. He married Wilma L. Hunter on September 24, 1950, in Winfield.
Mr. Van Osdol was a 1946 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1948 graduate of Burlington Junior College. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the infantry. He was a Armored Division driver instructor during the Korean conflict. He worked in production at General Electric for 15 years, retiring in 1992. He worked as a quality control foreman at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for nine years and as a full-time and part-time driver for Ideal Concrete and R & S Bottling Company. He also worked at Whitehouse Dairy and Frudeger's Bakery.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 579, Benevolent Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie No. 150 and Long Creek Conservation Club. He was a scoutmaster for many years and enjoyed camping with his children and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Pamela Jankowski and Sherry Hull, both of Burlington, Janice Kiersey of Mount Pleasant and Linda Hall of West Burlington; one son, Wayne Van Osdol of Maple Grove, Minnesota.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean Van Osdol of Burlington; and one sister, Juanita Cloyed of Kearney, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday in Lunning Chapel, with Moose rites at 6 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Van Osdol will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Lunning Chapel, with the Reverend Trevor Davis officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by VFW Posts 10102 and 9162.
A memorial has been established for Grace United Methodist Church.
