Alice L. Grinstead, 78, of LeMars, longtime resident of Amarillo, Texas, and formerly of New London, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, in LeMars.

Born Nov. 26, 1928, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward McElhaney and Bertha Gray. On Feb. 4, 1950, she married Herbert Grinstead in Burlington.

Mrs. Grinstead was employed at Sylvania, New London Community Schools, New London Bank and GCR Firestone.

She was a 50-year member of New London Chapter 440 OES, Stephens United Methodist in Amarillo and formerly New London United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Business College. She enjoyed reading.

Survivors include her husband, one son, Ray Grinstead of LeMars; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Jane Brady of Tucson, Ariz. and Elsie Rupprecht of Albuquerque, N.M.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliot Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends. The funeral for Mrs. Grinstead will be at 10 a.m. at Elliot Chapel with the Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established.
