Betty Verlee Walsh, 79, of Burlington, died at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003 at her home.

Born October 4, 1923, in Yarmouth, Illinois, she was the daughter of Henry and Sara Effie McDonald Kolkman. In 1969, she married William B. Walsh in Kahoka, Missouri. He died November 26, 1984.

Mrs. Walsh was a homemaker and cared for the elderly at the Burlington Medical Center. She was a member of Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Ann Gotelaere of Wisconsin and Donna Heyland; three grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one brother, Paul F. Kolkman of Minnesota; one sister, Ethel Stretter of California; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 8 a.m. Monday at Prugh's Chapel. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Walsh will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Prugh's Chapel. The service will be conducted by the elders of her church. Burial will be at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Animal Shelter.
