Cecil Samuel Tiemann, 81, of Burlington, died at 1:57 a.m. Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born November 9, 1921 in Burlington, he was the son of Samuel and Ida Matilda Zachmeyer Tiemann. On June 8, 1946, he married Leila June Laue in Burlington.

Mr. Tiemann farmed in the Burlington area since 1955.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Des Moines County Farm Bureau of Benton Township and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102. He was an Army veteran. He was an avid collector of all John Deere items.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, JoAnn Carol Oetken of Burlington and Sheila Lynn Martin of Shell Rock; four grandchildren; one sister, Edith Weyrick of Danville; one nephew;
two nieces; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters and one nephew.

Visitation will begin after noon today at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Tiemann will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial with military rites conducted by VFW Post 10102 & 9162, American Legion Post 52 and the Marine Corps League will be in North Walker Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Zion United Church of Christ and his grandchildren's education.
