LaMonte Pettis

LaMonte Harold Pettis, 96, of the Danville Care Center, formerly of Burlington, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at the care center.

Born May 3, 1908, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Adge William and Laura Anna Horsey Pettis. On Sept. 17, 1930, he married Nellie Elizabeth Wagler in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. Pettis was a baseball player in a semi–pro league in Chicago. He then worked as a security officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary and later worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 23 years.

He was a 1926 graduate of New London High School. He was a member of the Moose and was an avid golfer, bowler, Cubs fan, Hawkeyes fan and gardener.

Survivors include his wife and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
