JOHN ADAM WAHL DEAD

Was Born in the Fatherland and
Came to Burlington in the Early Sixties

John Adam Wahl, and old and highly respected resident of this city, passed at his home No. 853 North street. The sorrowing family were gathered at the bedside when the final summons reached him. He had been in failing health for some time and about ten weeks ago was compelled to take to his bed, from which he did not rise again. Death was due principally to the weight of years.
John Adam Wahl was born in Wuertemberg, Germany, December 1, 1826, and came to the United States in June of 1853. After looking about the country, he located at Decatur, Ill., where he was married to Magdalena Rief of this city, July 11, 1861. Three years later they moved to Burlington and this city remained their home.
Mr. Wahl was a member of the First German M.E. church where he had been a regular attendant for forty-seven years. While not actively engaged in politics, he took a deep interest in all questions of the day, being a strong advocate of the republican principles, and as loyal to his political as his religious beliefs, having never failed to cast his vote since he gave his first vote to Abraham Lincoln in 1860. This was a record to which he always pointed with pride.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Muenzenmeyer and Miss Lydia Wahl, and four sons, Phillip, George, Arthur and Frank Wahl. There are eight grandchildren. With the members of the family a host of friends will mourn for the good man.
The funeral will be held at the home at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Friends are invited to these services, but the interment will be private.
