Death of James C. Rankin.

the funeral of James C. Rankin, one of the old settlers of Des Moines county, occurred last Sunday as his home in Huron township. he had been sick for some time and his death occurred on Saturday. He was a native of Pennsylvania ans was born January 8, 1817, in Centre county. He moved west and settled in Huron township, Des Moines county, Iowa, in 1846 and two year later was married to Miss Catherine Waddle, a native of Layette county, Ohio. Mr. Rankin was an estimable citizen and performed will his part in the building up a new civilization in the lands once occupied by the (ed.--smudged text, four letters) and Fonna. He served as a member of the Board of Supervisors one term and as township clerk. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
