Florence Emogene Rowan, 94, of New London, formerly of Burlington, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009, at New London Nursing & Rehab Center.
Born Nov. 4, 1914, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Harry H. and Clara E. Cornick McCabe. On April 1, 1938, she married James Rowan in Henry County. He died July 8, 1981.Mrs. Rowan was a registered nurse. She was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, the Altar and Rosary Society, AARP, St. Francis Auxiliary and Jane A. Dealand Nurses Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Peterschmidt of Albuquerque, N.M., and Patricia Garreau of Linn, Mo.; two sons, Michael Rowan of New London and Thomas Rowan of Danville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, in Prugh's Chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Rowan will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church with the Rev. David Steinle officiating. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry.
