JAMES GRIFFITH DEAD.
Was an Old Settler, Having Come Here In 1836-Mortuary Notes

James Griffith, one of Des Moines county's pioneers, passed away at his home seven miles from the city on the Wapello road. He was born in the state of Delaware, May 2, 1824, and came here with his parents in 1836. He was married inm 1845 to Elizabeth Mc Kinney, who passed away 17 years ago.

Of the eleven children born to this worthy couple nine remain as follows: James, Frank and Edward, all of whom live in California; William and Miss Anna, who reside in Montana; Andrew, who makes his home in Nebraska; Mrs. Verllna Barton, of Roscoe, la.; .Mrs. Catherine Ping, of Sperry, la.; and Mrs. Ellva Berry, of Dodgeville, Iowa. Henry Griffith, a brother of the deceased, passed away a few days ago and was laid to rest at Red Oak. James Griffith was a man honored and looked up to by all his neighbors, a worthy citizen, who will be missed indeed. The funeral will take place at 10 a.m. to-day. Interment in Ripley cemetery.
