Monday, February 9, 1987R. NELSON dies at Burlington
Rex E. NELSON, 62, 310 South St., Burlington, died at 4 p.m. Sunday at Burlington Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the First Christian churches in Burlington and Fairfield and to the American Cancer Fund.
Nelson was born March 14, 1924 in Fairfield, the son of Allen B. and Letha CUPP NELSON. He was educated in Fairfield schools and lived in Fairfield before and after serving in the 37th Infantry Division of the Army in World War II, until re-entering the Army in 1949. He served until 1952. He married Janice G. HARPER in Memphis, Mo. The family moved to Burlington in January 1962. He was a member of First Christian Church in Burlington, a life member of Disabled American Veterans and VFW, a member of Elks and the Allen Jewett American Legion Post in Fairfield of which he had been a post commander.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Nancy K. BONAR of Royal Oak, Mich.; four grandchildren; a brother, Robert NELSON of Fairfield; a sister, Joyce FISHER of Traverse City, Mich., and his mother of Fairfield. His father preceded him in death.
