WELL KNOWN RESIDENT DIES

Andy Fiialkowski Has Lived in Des Moines County Over 85 Years.

Andy Fiialkowski, 89, resident of Dcs Moines county since childhood, died this noon at his home on the Agency road, five miles west of Burlington , after an extended illness. He had been in failing health for several months, but was bedfast only a few weeks.

Mr. Fiialkowski was born in Chillicothe, O., June 14, 1843, the son of Joseph and Johan Fiialkowski, coming to Burlington with his parents when he was only three years of age.

He went to Dr. Everal's school in a little frame house on Divison street and also attended the Graff school on Columbia street. Later he worked in Charlie Hendried foundry and learned the moulders trade, but the family moved to a farm on the Agency road and he has lived in his present home for 54 years. He was married April 15, 1871, to Mary Ellen Hilleary, and both lived to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary, his wife preceding him in death Sept. 14, 1931.

Mr. Fiialkowski was a member of the Burlington Zouaves and the Wide-Awakes during Lincoln's campaign for the presidency. He was on of the most widely know residents of the county and his favorite hobby was the Tri-State fair. He was a member of the Middletown Presbyterian church and the Burlington A.O.U.W. lodge. He saw many interesting changes in the section during his long span of life and could recall and relate many interesting facts about the early Iowa history.

He is survived by six children, Charley, Jessie, Millie and Elsie Fiialkowski, at home, Joseph Fiialkowski of Union township and Mrs. Lela Kelly of Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters Mr. Hazel Carroll, and Mrs. Harry Martin of Denver, Colo.; three great grandson, Charles and John Carroll and Harry Lee Martin; one sister, Mrs. Johan Orm; and six nieces; Two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral Services will be held at the residence Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body will be taken home from Prugh's chapel tomorrow afternoon.
